Gallstones Update 4. Surgery Done

Hi everyone.

It has been a while since I have done a gallstones update as nothing has been happening and I have been sitting on the waiting list hoping I would get my operation date through as soon as possible.

Well I finally received a call 2 weeks ago asking if I could go in for my operation on 8th November. I jumped at the chance and was booked in for my pre op one week before I was due for my operation.

So my operation took place last week. I had a laprascopic cholecystectomy and this was done under the day surgery ward.

I arrived on the ward at 7:30am and was admitted, asked to put on a gown and paper knickers and sit in a recline chair to wait to be called for surgery.

I was called for surgery at 9:20am so I didn’t have to wait for too long, which is good as I wasn’t allowed my phone. Luckily I had taken a book to read! The consultant and the anesthesiologist came to see me before I went down to sign consent forms etc.

I was back up on the reclining chair by 11:30am and all was done. The nurse said I would need to stay for 6 hours so this is what happened. I was in quite a bit of discomfort which was apparently due to the gas still in my body from surgery, I am still suffering from this now but it gets better every day. This was something I wasn’t told about before hand and I wish I had have been because it is really quite painful and the pain goes up into your shoulders so it can be a quite frightening pain if you are not expecting it.

After having a horrible tuna sandwich and a few cups of tea the consultant who performed the surgery came to see how I was getting on and then at 5pm I was able to be discharged. I was given dressings which I have been replacing every 48 hours and also told to make an appointment to have the clips taken out at my GP’s on Friday, which I have done.

Since then I have been getting better everyday I am still sitting up when.i go to sleep using lots of pillows to prop myself up with but I am getting lower down the more nights go by which is fab 🙂 I can’t sleep on my side yet though which I’m missing as that is how I usually sleep.

I have 4 wounds from the surgery. 3 or which are fine and healing well but one is starting to go red and a little bit sore so I am not sure if this is getting infected! I shall be keeping a close eye on it!!!

This is a picture of how my wounds where looking 4 days after surgery.

Laughing and coughing are so painful which is not fun and for the first 4 days I was walking hunched right over but I am standing up straighter every day.

I will do another update next week when I have had my clips out and let you all know how I am getting on.

I am just so glad that nasty gallbladder has now gone!

Thank you for reading and watching if you did.

Running update. I ran my first ever 10k race

Hi everyone.

We ran our first ever 10k race last weekend so I thought it was a good time for an update.

So we headed off for Sheffield last Sunday morning having only ran the full 10k once (which included a little walking as I had horrendous stomach ache that day) hoping that we would finish in around 1 hour 15 minutes.
We managed to complete it in 1 hour 12 minutes and 13 seconds which we are both super proud of as there was some awful hills along the way. I think it definitely helps having lots of other people around you and we where always trying to keep the 1 hour 15 minute marker lady in our site throughout most of the run. We then decided closer to the end we could pass her and still feel like we could carry on running that pace so we did 🙂

Unfortunately i am going to have to have a few weeks off now as i am finally having my gallbladder removed on Tuesday (I will be doing a post on this once i have had it done) so i will be out of action for a little while. once i am all recovered i will be back to training as i want to get up to a half marathon for next May and I would also like to get in lots more 10k races before then if I can. I would also like to start going back to the park run on a Saturday morning and speed up my time on a shorter distance run.

Here is a picture of us at the end with our medals 🙂 I am very proud of my first ever medal and am hoping to add to it very soon!

I hope this motivates you to give training for a 10k or any running distance a go. If you have read my other posts you will know i started the couch to 10k running app from the start and it has been brilliant 🙂

Asda Shopping Haul for a Family of 5 24th October 2016

Hi everyone,

I have been uploading my food shopping hauls to my YouTube channel for a while now but I don’t think I have added them onto here before. So I thought it was time I did!

This week shopping came to £90.52 but this includes nappies that will probably last me the whole month and also laundry items and washing up liquid that will last a couple of weeks.

It is also holiday from school this week so I ordered a few more snacky items to keep the big kids going while they are off!

So here is the haul video, enjoy 🙂

Oliver’s 8 Month Update

Hi everyone,

Oliver turned 8 months last week so I thought it was time I did another update on how he is getting on.

wp-1474918119008.jpg

Oliver is still on 3 meals a day and 4 bottles a day. He is definitely more interested in food now though that his milk and some days he will only have 3 bottles. His bottles are 6oz as he doesn’t seem to ever drink any more than this and according to the back of the milk box him having 4 x 6oz bottles is enough for his age.
The main thing that he eats is 7 months baby jars and I just tend to get any that are on offer. He also has the baby porridge again whatever is on offer. If we are having something for our tea that I think he can have (I know he can eat most things now!) then he will join in with us. This is usually things like tuna pasta and spaghetti Bolognese. I really do need to up my game on his food but I am a rubbish cook!

As for naps he is still have 2, 1-2 hour naps a day but now it is back to school time his afternoon nap is sometimes cut short as we have to go and pick up his brother and sister. He is going to bed at 6:00-6:30 and is mainly sleeping through but some night recently he has been waking around 9pm, I think this is because he has a cold and cough so hopefully once this has passed he will stop doing this.

Development wise he is still rolling all over and sitting totally unaided now, he has also started to lean right forward when he is sat up and he then end up on his front laid down. He is not able to get from laid down to sat up yet thought but I fully expect in the next few weeks to walk into his bedroom one morning to find him sat up in there!

As he loves noisy toys I decided to take him along to a local Music Bugs class. I really enjoyed it and think once he has been a few times Oliver will love it too. He really enjoyed the end part of the class when there was a bubble machine on and lots of different objects for him to see and touch. I am also going to start taking him swimming every week so that on the 2 days I have off work I will be doing something for just him as it feels at the moment he is just carted around doing what everyone else is doing and nothing is for him.
He now has 7 teeth. 3 at the bottom and 4 at the top. And just yesterday he started to mama which is so so cute, all though he does tend to do this when he is grumpy.

I also filmed a video for my YouTube channel which you can check out here:

Couch to 10k Update.. I signed up for a race!

Hi everyone,

Its been a while now since I have done an update on my couch to 10k journey so I thought I would take some time to let you all know where I am at.

Due to the summer holidays and me and my running buddy having holidays most of the way through we have not made a lot of progress for the past few months but we have fitted in a 5k run here and there as much as we could.

Now the summer holidays are over we are back on plan and are currently on Week 10 day 1. This involves a 5 minute warm up walk, 3 x 15 minute runs with a 1 minute gap in between each run then a 5 minute cool down walk.

I think the race has given us the motivation to carry on pushing to get to 10k as we are now able to comfortably run 5k which is great seen as I had gone back down to not being able to run at all after having Oliver.

That is all there is to update you with right now, I will update you again in 4 weeks when I should be running 10k and getting ready for my first race!

If you are interested in the app we use, which is the Zen Labs Fitness app please click here to download from iTunes, or here for Google Play.

Have you ever used this app or a different program for running? I would love to hear about your fitness journeys.

Thank you for reading

The Secret Diary of Agent Spitback

Oliver’s 7 month update

So Oliver turned 7 months old last week so I thought it was time I did an update on how he is doing.

Oliver is now on 3 meals a day and 4 bottles a day and his usual routine for this is.

6:30am-7:00am He will wake up and have a bowl of baby porridge and a 6oz bottle.

10:30-11:00am He will have a 6oz bottle.

12:00-12:30pm is lunch time and he will have a 7 month jar and a baby fruity pot.

3:00pm ish is usually another 6oz bottle.

5:00-5:30pm tea time. This is the same as lunch a 7 month jar and baby fruity pot all though some nights I will give him what we are having such as spaghetti bolognaise etc.

6:30-7:00pm last bottle of the night another 6oz one.

I will do a more in depth weaning post to let you know what food we are using but it is still pretty similar to when we starting weaning. You can check that post out here.

Oliver is now having 2-3 naps a day, mostly 2. These are usually around 9:30 for 1-2 hours and then in the afternoon about 1:00pm for 1-2 hours as well but this depends on if we are at home as he will not nap for longer than 30 minutes in his pushchair!

As for bedtime and wake up time he tends to go to bed around 6:30-7:00pm after his last bottle and then will usually go all night and wake up at around 6:30 in the morning.

Development wise he is now rolling and it using this as a way to get around, he just rolls over and over until he gets where he wants to be. In the last few days when he is laid on his front he has started to try to lift his knees up into a crawling position. He also likes to stand up now when you hold him up and often gets frustrated with you if you just sit him on your knee when he would rather stand up.

He is also sitting up now and can sit mainly by himself for a good while unless he isn’t concentrating then he will fall.

Oliver loves noisy toys and has a few rattles that he shakes around and bangs on things to make as much noice as possible and he also likes something he can have a good chomp on.
He now has 6 teeth. The 2 at the bottom are totally through and then the 4 at the top started to make their appearance all together about 2 weeks ago so there is no wonder he has enjoyed toys that he can chomp on.

Oliver has now started to babble and is making lots of different sounds but I cannot make out anything that really sounds like his first word yet.

I need to take him to my local children’s centre as I haven’t had him weighted for a good few months so I will update you on his weight next month.

I think I have included everything that has been going on this month with Oliver and I will update you again next month.

Thank you for reading.
