Oliver’s 8 Month Update

Hi everyone,

Oliver turned 8 months last week so I thought it was time I did another update on how he is getting on.

wp-1474918119008.jpg

Oliver is still on 3 meals a day and 4 bottles a day. He is definitely more interested in food now though that his milk and some days he will only have 3 bottles. His bottles are 6oz as he doesn’t seem to ever drink any more than this and according to the back of the milk box him having 4 x 6oz bottles is enough for his age.
The main thing that he eats is 7 months baby jars and I just tend to get any that are on offer. He also has the baby porridge again whatever is on offer. If we are having something for our tea that I think he can have (I know he can eat most things now!) then he will join in with us. This is usually things like tuna pasta and spaghetti Bolognese. I really do need to up my game on his food but I am a rubbish cook!

As for naps he is still have 2, 1-2 hour naps a day but now it is back to school time his afternoon nap is sometimes cut short as we have to go and pick up his brother and sister. He is going to bed at 6:00-6:30 and is mainly sleeping through but some night recently he has been waking around 9pm, I think this is because he has a cold and cough so hopefully once this has passed he will stop doing this.

Development wise he is still rolling all over and sitting totally unaided now, he has also started to lean right forward when he is sat up and he then end up on his front laid down. He is not able to get from laid down to sat up yet thought but I fully expect in the next few weeks to walk into his bedroom one morning to find him sat up in there!

As he loves noisy toys I decided to take him along to a local Music Bugs class. I really enjoyed it and think once he has been a few times Oliver will love it too. He really enjoyed the end part of the class when there was a bubble machine on and lots of different objects for him to see and touch. I am also going to start taking him swimming every week so that on the 2 days I have off work I will be doing something for just him as it feels at the moment he is just carted around doing what everyone else is doing and nothing is for him.
He now has 7 teeth. 3 at the bottom and 4 at the top. And just yesterday he started to mama which is so so cute, all though he does tend to do this when he is grumpy.

I also filmed a video for my YouTube channel which you can check out here:

Oliver’s 7 month update

So Oliver turned 7 months old last week so I thought it was time I did an update on how he is doing.

Oliver is now on 3 meals a day and 4 bottles a day and his usual routine for this is.

6:30am-7:00am He will wake up and have a bowl of baby porridge and a 6oz bottle.

10:30-11:00am He will have a 6oz bottle.

12:00-12:30pm is lunch time and he will have a 7 month jar and a baby fruity pot.

3:00pm ish is usually another 6oz bottle.

5:00-5:30pm tea time. This is the same as lunch a 7 month jar and baby fruity pot all though some nights I will give him what we are having such as spaghetti bolognaise etc.

6:30-7:00pm last bottle of the night another 6oz one.

I will do a more in depth weaning post to let you know what food we are using but it is still pretty similar to when we starting weaning. You can check that post out here.

Oliver is now having 2-3 naps a day, mostly 2. These are usually around 9:30 for 1-2 hours and then in the afternoon about 1:00pm for 1-2 hours as well but this depends on if we are at home as he will not nap for longer than 30 minutes in his pushchair!

As for bedtime and wake up time he tends to go to bed around 6:30-7:00pm after his last bottle and then will usually go all night and wake up at around 6:30 in the morning.

Development wise he is now rolling and it using this as a way to get around, he just rolls over and over until he gets where he wants to be. In the last few days when he is laid on his front he has started to try to lift his knees up into a crawling position. He also likes to stand up now when you hold him up and often gets frustrated with you if you just sit him on your knee when he would rather stand up.

He is also sitting up now and can sit mainly by himself for a good while unless he isn’t concentrating then he will fall.

Oliver loves noisy toys and has a few rattles that he shakes around and bangs on things to make as much noice as possible and he also likes something he can have a good chomp on.
He now has 6 teeth. The 2 at the bottom are totally through and then the 4 at the top started to make their appearance all together about 2 weeks ago so there is no wonder he has enjoyed toys that he can chomp on.

Oliver has now started to babble and is making lots of different sounds but I cannot make out anything that really sounds like his first word yet.

I need to take him to my local children’s centre as I haven’t had him weighted for a good few months so I will update you on his weight next month.

I think I have included everything that has been going on this month with Oliver and I will update you again next month.

Thank you for reading.

Maternity Leave. My Regrets

I have just realised I only have 6 weeks left of maternity leave and it has made me realise i feel I have totally wasted the time I have had off work!

I had all these plans to go to baby groups such as baby massage, swimming and music bugs and I have done nothing. We tried out baby massage and he didn’t seem that keen to be honest but the others i haven’t even given them a try.

I am determined to make these last 6 weeks count and to also make the 2 days I will have with him a week count! I have found a music bugs session and a swimming session that we can attend so I will be booking onto these and i just also want to get out for walks with him more and play with him more (this goes for my big 2 as well, after school and at weekends)
I am also so worried about going back to work and taking Oliver to nursery. When I went back to work after Freddie my mum had him for 2 days and Gareth for the other day so I had no worries and I also went back to doing the same job I left.

With Isla I had no choice but to put them both in nursery and again I went back to the same job but this time I just don’t want to go back.

This is the first time I have thought I want to be a stay at home mum but it just can’t happen due to our finances which I am so sad about. I have never felt like this before, i have looked forward to returning to work and having adult interaction.

I dont know if it’s the fact that Oliver may well be the last or that I am going back to a different job but over the last week I have felt more and more sad about him going to nursery while I’m at work 3 days a week but unfortunately for now it has to be done.

Im sorry for another post like this but I feel better getting my thought down on my blog!
Has anyone else felt like this about returning to work? How did you deal with it?

4 months postpartum update

Hi everyone,

Oliver is now 4 1/2 months old (actually nearly 5 months old!) and he is doing great. He has 1 tooth through now and 2 more on the way. He hasn’t been too bothered with them apart from being very drooly so we are getting through lots of l bibs at the minute.

image

He is so close to rolling over, he gets halfway and then rolls back over but I don’t think he will be long before he is over fully 🙂

We are now weaning and he is totally loving it. He has 3 meals a day which consists of porridge in the morning and then fruity pots or powdered meals, 1 of his favourite ones is the Heinz broccoli and cauliflower cheese.

Oliver sleeps all night and has done for a good while now. He has a bottle and his tea at about 5-5:30 then he goes through till around 7-8 depending on how loud the other 2 are in the morning!

As for me I am doing good, Ollie is bottle fed so no problems with boobs apart from the fact they are now pretty much non existent which I am really not happy about and it is getting me down but there is really not alot I can do about it. I am currently on the hunt for a good fitting bra to boost my boobs and my spirits! If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Health wise apart from my gallstones everything is good with me. I am now on the waiting list to have my gallbladder removed which is good but also scary at the same time.

I have now been back to running for a couple of weeks now and am loving it and I also now have a runny buddy which I am really enjoying as going out alone can be boring when you like to talk alot like me!

I think that is everything for this update. I have also uploaded a video to my YouTube channel which you can find here if you would like to take a look on YouTube and I have also added it below.

Thank you for reading and I will talk to you soon. I am now hoping to post alot more regularly and have 4 posts going up every week so please keep an eye out for those. 2 of them will be uploaded when youtube videos are uploaded and the other 2 will just be blog posts, I am just trying to figure out the best times and days for me to upload that work well around my family life as well.

If you haven’t already please follow me on Twitter and Instagram and I have also just set up a Facebook page too and I would love to see you over there 🙂

Speak to you all soon

What I actually used in my hospital bag

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

I have just uploaded a new video to my YouTube channel about what I actually used in my hospital bag.

If you would like to check it out please click here.

I really did not use alot of the items I packed as I was only in hospital for a total of 20 hours but I hope it gives you a bit of an idea about what you may use while you are in labour and after if you choose to stay in hospital.

Here are links to my previous blog posts and videos about what I packed in mine and Ollie’s bag.

My Birth Story

Hi again everyone,

I thought I would write my birth story for you all while it is still fresh in my mind!

So here we go…. I went to the midwife on Thursday 21st at 11:30 for a sweep as I was 7 days overdue. When the midwife examined me I was very surprised to be told I was already 5cm dilated! She performed the sweep and booked me in for the Sunday for another one if I hadn’t gone into labour by then.

Me and my husband went back home and I got on my ball and bounced away and I started getting contractions though only mild pretty much straight away. My mum was already coming through to see me so we went our for dinner and popped to Debenhams to pick up a blanket for the little man and then the contractions where coming quite regularly every 5 or so minutes but they only felt mildly painful but due to the fact I only just made it to hospital last time I had been told to call the hospital when the contractions where regular but not necessarily painful.

So at 2:30pm I rang the delivery suite and they told me to go in and be examined. We arrived there and I was still only 5cm dilated but the midwife said we could wait there informally for 4 hours and see if I made any progress, we decided to do this so my mum went off to pick the kids up from school and nursery and take them.back to her house and me and my husband went for walks around the hospital and I bounced on a ball. My bump was going solid so was definitely contracting but I still was not feeling alot of pain. I thought after 2 hours I would be going home after examination as to me if felt like nothing was happening at all!

At 6:30pm I was examined again and I had progressed to 7cm, whilst the midwife was examining me she felt me having a contraction but I didn’t even feel it!! They admitted me properly to the delivery suite and a new midwife took over my care. (she was an amazing midwife and funnily enough she started her shift and was in the lift with us as we made our way up to be properly admitted after doing to get my bags from the car.

I was put on the monitor as little man’s heartbeat was a bit fast and the contractions where showing up on the monitor very well and they had started to pick up in pain a little for me too! They progressively increased in intensity over the next few hours. The doctor was called in to check heartbeat trace and he was happy with it but I had a temperature so I was put onto fluids to try and bring it down and also some paracetamol.

At 10:30pm I was examined again and they where going to break my waters but decided to wait a little while. I had progressed to 8cm ans pain was starting to kick in now. I think I started using gas and air about 8:00pm.

After this time I am unsure on times as was concentrating on breathing through the pains. I believe I was ready to push at about 12:00am and he arrived at 12:31am on Friday 22nd January 🙂

This whole birth experience was so much different to my other 2. Apart from the doctors popping in early on, it was so relaxed the midwife just watched from afar and just let me do what my body was telling me to do and because I have given birth before I could tell exactly what was happening with my body as well when it came to the later stage of labour. It was painful obviously and it was all done with just gas and air but it was perfect and he arrived safe and well and he is amazing. 🙂

I stayed on the was till Friday afternoon and my mum and my other 2 children came to meet the little guy and my mother in law came to visit too which was lovely. I then came home and so far he has slotted in to the family like he has always been here.

I hope you enjoyed reading my birth story I have probably missed bits out but I hope I have covered most things for you :).

I have now also added a video to my YouTube channel if you would like to take a look please click on this link My Birth Story Video
